The American Council for School Social Work just learned of Michelle's unexpected passing.  It was an honor to have been the recipient of her joy, laughter, and humor.  She will be missed not only for her work but for her warmth and compassion.  We extend our deepest condolences to her husband and daughter, Scott and Maura, and to her parents and extended family.

Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Lavin and Family: We were deeply shocked and devastated to learn of your loss.  Michele was a treasured member of our 'ARC/ARCh family" for over 20 years.  I've never known anyone who so effectively blended toughness and kindness with indefatigable optimism...and then there was that wicked sense of humor!  Our hearts are broken for you and especially Maura...but Michele will always live in our hearts as a shining example of endurance, cheerfulness in the face of adversity, and a passionate love for children that improved so many hundreds of lives! So glad that I got to know Michele in these short couple years at Jeffery Elementary.  While we shared many laughs as colleagues, I'll miss, most of all, how she went the extra mile to improve the lives of so many children, including my own. RIP, Michele, and may God watch over your family.

Michele was an amazing School Social Worker and friend.  She was full of ideas, support, opinions, questions, and had an amazing sense of humor. We could always count on her to get answers, ask the hard questions, to find an email or document from 5 years ago, and to keep us on track when we got a little distracted during our Social Work meetings.  I can hear her telling us to quiet down and listen...she would always start out by saying "Guys..."

She worked at several different buildings, and grade levels at KUSD, and touched the lives of thousands of children, parents and staff over the last several years.  

She would talk about Maura ALL the time and her face lit up when she did.  She truly loved Maura with all of her heart! 

Michele was the girl who was all about getting everyone together and keeping us connected as a team.  She has brought us together once again to celebrate her life and to support one and other, as she always did for us.  

Our Social Work department has made a promise with each other to carry on the traditions and gatherings that Michele loved so much...like bringing a picture of Jesus to our annual white elephant gift exchange, or getting together for lunch dates.  

She will be deeply missed, but we will not forget everything that she has done for us, our students, staff, parents and for the Social Work profession.

I was thrilled to bump into Michele at a school field trip a couple of years ago.  Seeing her and Maura sit next to me was a huge surprise, and made me think back to my daycare days! No words can describe how your family has touched my life.  My prayers are with you and Maura at this very difficult time.

I am so very sorry to hear about Michelle's passing. She was a good friend in high school and we enjoyed many classes and lunches together.  She had a great sense of humor :)  One of my fondest memories was traveling to Washington, D.C with Michelle and her parents.  I was always really appreciative that she chose to invite me.
