

Barbara passed away on February 21, 2015 in Halifax surrounded by her family. Born Barbara Wells in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in 1921, she was the youngest daughter of Julia Bryant and John Herbert Wells.
The family immigrated to Canada in April, 1928 on the Minnedosa out of Liverpool England, arriving in St. John New Brunswick. The family settled in Nova Scotia and Barbara grew up on a farm overlooking the Bras D’or Lakes. She served in the Canadian Air Force during WW II and came to Halifax after the war, working at the Singer Sewing Company.
Barbara was a devoted wife, and a kind and sympathetic mother and grandmother who always faced life with a sense of humour. A homemaker most of her married life, Barbara spent many volunteer hours supporting both church and school. She held several part-time jobs while raising four children, and upon retirement was a library assistant at St. Mary’s University.
Barbara was pre- deceased by her husband, Terrance Corbin, and a daughter, Pamela as well as siblings Eric, Alec, Graydon, Irene (Hay). Pat (Reid) and Lillian (Martin). She leaves behind two daughters, Anne and Susan, a son Stephen, sons- in-law Randy and Bruce, daughter-in-law Sandi, and three grandchildren, Benna, Kate and Noel.
Barbara was a supporter of many charities and enjoyed reading and music. She was always surrounded by a loving family. At home in the weeks before her death, she received much pleasure from a wide selection of music and loved to watch the Oasis nature channel. To the day of her death, she was able to enjoy the companionship of her family, including the family cat, Guinevere.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be planned for a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of choice.
