Betty Jean Simpson

Simpson (Martin), Betty Jean, passed into the presence of the Lord on August 4, 2013, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, with her family at her side. Beloved wife of Paul; loving mother of Bryan (Melanie) of Phelpston, ON; Erin McLellan (Derek Stein) of Bedford, NS; son-in-law Mike McLellan of Lower Sackville, NS. She was the cherished grandmother of Trent, Peter, and Mitchell Simpson, Dean McLellan, and Makennah Stein. Betty was the devoted daughter of Sherwood Martin and the late Helen Martin of Peterborough, ON. Dear sister of Rev. Bill Martin (Ester); Rob Martin (Lisa); and Kevin Martin (Vonda); all of Peterborough. Betty will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Jean and Uncle Norm Johns, Uncle Bob and Linda Scriver, and dear friend Marina Doane.

Betty was born on December 5, 1951, in Peterborough, ON. She became a Christian at an early age, and lived her faith. She graduated as an RN from the Peterborough Civic Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1972. After graduation she began her working career at St. Joseph's Hospital in Peterborough, and after moving to Halifax, NS with her family in 1988 she worked at the IWK Health Centre for nearly 10 years.

Her devotion was first to Christ, then her family, her church, and volunteering in the community. She was a mentor to many, befriending people of all generations and nationalities.

Visitation will be held at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., on Friday August 9th, 2013, from 7 to 9 pm. Memorial service at Faith Tabernacle Church, 6225 Summit St., Halifax, NS on Saturday, August 10th at 2 pm. Inurnment at a later date.

Donations may be made to the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation - Cancer Care, or to Compassion Canada.
