Brenda Comstock-Thomson
Oct. 16, 1959 - Nov. 1, 2023
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Lee Comstock-Thomson, 64, who died on Wednesday Nov. 1 in the hilltop Bedford home where she raised her beloved children. Brenda was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and faced the lows of the disease with grace and vigour, never losing hope and always holding onto her faith in God.
The daughter of the late Mary Agnes and John Edward Comstock Sr., our sweet Brenda was born on Oct. 16, 1959 in Halifax, N.S., the second youngest in a boisterous family of 14.
Brenda was a loving wife and mother. Her children were her entire world, and she was immeasurably proud of her daughter Aly, a journalist, and her son Sam, a mechanic. She was an affectionate and adoring parent, qualities she no doubt learned growing up in a large family that shares a tight-knit bond.
More recently, she was smitten with her grandchildren JJ (Sweet Pea) and Sadie (Miss Sadie Jane) Eisan. They, too, were infatuated with their “Nanny” — not because of the treats she would pluck from her purse, but because of the warmth and security she brought to them and to everyone in her life.
She spent many summers in Stanhope, P.E.I., first with her siblings and later with a family of her own, including her devoted and loving husband Jeff. Brenda loved feeling the sand between her toes and walking the seemingly endless skyline during the island’s spectacular sunsets.
A deep admirer of the arts, Brenda spent many happy hours taking in live concerts with her children and plays at Neptune Theatre with her dear sisters. She adored music and hers was a home filled with laughter and song.
Despite having a gentle and tender soul, she was also fiercely competitive, never passing up the opportunity to claim victory in a game of cribbage or Skip-Bo. She spent many years in bowling alleys and later enjoyed walking the province’s golf courses with her late husband.
Brenda spent much of her adult life as a medical receptionist, where she met her cherished work family. But her most defining job was that of the position of mother. She led her family fearlessly and altruistically. She taught her family and friends the value of kindness and unconditional love. She was their moral compass and confidante — and the comic relief. Her laugh was animated and infectious. She always unapologetically lived exactly the way she wanted, and never strayed from being her true authentic self.
Brenda is predeceased by her husband Jeffrey George Thomson, and is survived by her daughter Alyson Eisan (Kyle) and son Samuel Thomson. She will be greatly missed by sisters, Marjorie (Reno) Favretto, Marie (Boyd) Algee, Pauline (Ron - deceased) Murray, Gloria (David - deceased) Langille-Hennigar, Deborah (Jared) Comstock-Willcox, and Christine (Glen) Porter; brothers, Ron Comstock, Andy (Nancy - deceased) Comstock, Pat (Sharon) Comstock, and Philip (Holly) Comstock; grandchildren Jameson and Sadie Eisan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. at Saint Ignatius in Bedford, with a reception at the church hall to follow. A private family interment will be held at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Donations in Brenda’s memory can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
