

Dorothy Lorretta Wilson – Age 78, passed away in Halifax on February 21, 2012 ( her daughter Penny's birthday). With her loving son and caregiver, Jamie, at her side, she went on to be with her Lord and Savior. Dorothy was born on March 3rd, 1933 to the late Walter and Beryl (nee Lee) Golar. Dorothy was a life-long resident of Halifax, residing in her early years at 112 Maitland Street. Dorothy married the late Deacon Charlie Wilson in 1954. Charlie and Dorothy raised a family of six: Gail, Wendie-Lee, Jamie of Halifax; Jason (Roberta) of Dartmouth; son-in-law, George Poitras. She is predeceased by her daughter, Lorretta (Penny) and son, Glenn . In addition to raising their own children, Dorothy and Charlie opened their home to Herbie Wilson, Randy Wilson and Christa Howe. Dorothy is survived by 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter. Sisters: Ruby Nicholson (Los Angeles, CA), Vivian Dix (Amherstburg, ON), Gloria Brown (Mississauga, ON), Sheila Golar (Amherstburg, ON) and Dyane (Curtis) Thompson (Edmonton, AB) and brother, Tom Golar (Montreal, QC). She is predeceased by sisters, Constance Hurst, Ruth Williams and brother Kenneth Golar. Many benefitted from Dorothy’s love and compassion for children. She was an avid bingo player and loved knitting for others. She was a member of various community groups in the Uniacke Square area. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Bishop Joyce Robart. The visitation and the Celebration of Life will both take place at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, NS.
