

Passed away surrounded by her family on September 2, 2016 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on March 17, 1943, in Halifax.
For over 50 years Elva was a dedicated member with Faith Tabernacle Church, serving as the first female deacon on the board, as president and on the executive of Women’s Ministries. Her many contributions to the congregation included, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, volunteering for the seniors golden treasures, usher and greeter. She also led a grief share group and was a true prayer warrior. Elva had a passion for cooking for others, some of her happiest moments were spent preparing and serving a dinner table feast.
Her motto for life was “JOY J-Jesus first, O-Other’s second and Y- Yourself last”
Elva was pre-deceased by her husband Keith Slauenwhite, mother Virginia Laing (Sawler). Elva leaves behind her second husband Lloyd Reid, her five children, Karen Lynch (Steven) Halifax, Sandra Slauenwhite-Box (Derrick) Minden, ON, Andrew Slauenwhite (Pam), Montana, Stephen Slauenwhite (Tammy) Sackville, NB, Adam Slauenwhite Vancouver, BC, her two step-sons Kevin Reid (Juanita) and Russel Reid (Christina), her seven grandchildren, Stephanie Lynch, Bryan Lynch (Samantha), Matthew L’Archeveque, Erika Malins (David), Katherine Slauenwhite, Tyler Slauenwhite, Ryanne Slauenwhite, and her great granddaughter Averey Lynch.
The family would like to thank all the care givers who supported Elva over the last year during her illness, Dr. Diane D’Arcy, amazing family physician, Dr. Dave Dupere and team in Palliative Care Unit 7A at VG Hospital, Continuing Care, VON and Para Med care givers.
Visitation will take place at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home at 2666 Windsor Street on Sunday, September 4 from 2PM - 4PM. Funeral service will be held at Faith Tabernacle on 6225 Summit Street on Monday September 5 at 1PM. The interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith Tabernacle Church or the Canadian Cancer Society
