

Florence Marjorie Catherine (Hoare) Soares passed away in Halifax June 6, 2014, surrounded by love at 94. She was daughter of Alexander & Margaret (Parr) Hoare; predeceased by her husband Eduardo. Florence left Halifax for Washington, then worked in China for the U.N. during WW2. After the war, she returned to Halifax,opening a gift shop on Quinpool Road. She was Functions Manager at the Lord Nelson for years. Florence completed her career by organising the first Volunteer Services Department at Victoria General Hospital, which she managed for over 20 years. She was honoured by the YWCA Womenʼs Recognition Dinner for service to hospital & community, with volunteer work for Girl Guides, CAMR, university & church groups. Florence sang with the Bluenose Belles & was an involved Beta Sigma Phi member most of her life. She was a loving and generous lady, strong in her faith. Florence is survived by her children Kathleen and Michael (Marjorie); grandchildren Shaun, Morgan, Heidi and Jordan; great-grandchild Grady, sisters Marie McDonald and Sister Doris Hoare.
