MACDONALD, (GOSINE) FRANCES RITA, 95 HALIFAX. It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Frances MacDonald on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the QEII Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha (Saab) Gosine. As a young woman, Frances worked at a thriving family business on Gottingen Street, where she loved interacting with the many people she came in contact with daily. Intrigued by the world of high-fashion, it wasn’t long before she became a fashion buyer for ladies apparel, a natural talent and career which she enjoyed for many years working at Fabrays, Dalmy’s, New York Dress, Fifth Avenue, Simpsons and Davids. In addition to her passion for fashion, Frances loved dancing, listening to music, bowling, reading and playing darts at the Canadian Legion, where she met her husband Lloyd, and married him late in life at the age of 63. In her early years, Frances loved to travel. She was also a prayerful and church-going woman. Frances enjoyed meeting people and delighted in being where the action was. Her zest for life will not be soon forgotten. Frances lived her married life in Dartmouth and after her husband’s death she resided on Spring Garden Road where she developed many dear and special friendships within her apartment complex. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd MacDonald; sisters, Emmaline Juteau and Annie Resk; brothers, Michael and Jimmy, and her stepson Cecil MacDonald, all of HRM. Frances is survived by her sisters Matilda Hayward, Louise Abraham; her stepchildren Robert (Barb), Calvin, Barb (Bill Mackenzie), numerous nieces and nephews and step grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nanny Fran. There will be no visitation. Mass will be held at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:00 am with reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Burial at a later date at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
