It is with great sadness the family of Francis (Frank) Ronald Gorman (Halifax) announce his passing on February 1st 2018, surrounded by his family. Frank was born at home in Halifax on Pepperell Street, April 19th, 1923 to William and Hazel (Hodges) Gorman. His family moved to Merigomish when he was 10 years where he enjoyed hunting and fishing his brother, John. When he was 17 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the start of World War 2 and served for the duration of the war as a Naval gunner. During the war he met and later married the love of his life, Mary (Whalen) Gorman. After the war, he joined the Halifax Police Department where he served in the police force for 37 ½ years and welcomed his 3 daughters (Anne, Frances, and Geraldine) into the world. Frank was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Knights of Columbus, Cape Breton Club, Retired Police Association of Nova Scotia. Frank enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going for drives to Cape Breton, having fun at the Casino and horse races, singing songs, reciting poetry, and sharing good times and his humour with friends and family. Frank is predeceased by his parents William and Hazel (Hodges) Gorman, brother John Gorman, sister Mary (Gorman) Doucette ,beautiful wife, Mary (Whalen) Gorman, and daughter, Gerri Gorman. Frank is survived by his daughters, Fran Gorman and Anne (Gorman) Watson, grandchildren and great -grandchildren Sandy (Sonia), Rhys, Teaghan, Arianna, David (Christa), Brandon, Gerri, Jessica, Brad (Kelli), Warren (Stephanie), Ethan, Ben, Lee ,Tara (Trevor), Ella and Alex.
A celebration of life will be held for Frank and will begin with a wake on Wednesday, February 7th, 2017 from 6pm-9pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street Halifax and a service on Thursday February 9th 2018 at 11am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford Street, Halifax; reception and internment to follow.
