Hickey, Francis William (Frank)

It is with much sadness we announce Frank’s passing on June 20, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary with his family by his side.

Frank is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra, and sons Stephen (Maygen), Michael (Bobbie). A Loving Poppi to D.J, Devanee, Evalynn and Jasper. Also surviving are his sisters, Anne Dubé (Gilles) Halifax and Maureen Hickey (Toronto). Also left to mourn are nephews Jason Dubé, Michael Tracey, Jason Humeniak Nieces Joanna Dunn, Joanna Berubé, Jennifer Tracey, Sonya Tancock and Tracey Bergen.

Frank was pre-deceased by parents Arthur and Margaret and Brother Paul, and nephew Aaron.

A special Thank you to Barry Allen, a good friend and neighbor, who faithfully delivered the Eucharist every Sunday. Also a special mention to Dan and Debbie Almon for their kindness of meals and Saturday drives with Gary. Thank you to Dr. Robin McFarlane and Nurse Marsha, Dr. Lara Best, Dr. Hernandez, Dr Saha and Dr. Steven Morris. Also thanks to Cindy Bell, Palliative Care and theVON.

Frank started his career as a social worker, then probation, but his greatest love was working at the Museum of Natural History. He was in his element because of his love of history. He seemed to have an endless amount of knowledge. His eldest grand-daughter, Devanee, would often say “If you don’t know, I’ll ask Poppi, he knows everything."

Frank was a very special man with a love of family and the neighborhood he grew up in. Children would knock on our door to see if he could come out to “play”.

Visitation at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Windsor Street, Halifax on Sunday July 5th from 2-4pm. Funeral service for Frank will be held at St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi Parish (Formerly Theresa’s), North Street, Halifax. Due to the ongoing Provincial regulations and respecting social distancing, Frank's service will be by invitation only. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville, NS.

In Lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a Charity of your choice.

He will be forever missed and loved.

Dear Sandra:

I was very sorry to hear of Frank’s passing. We went to school together and I always considered Frank to be a friend. We lost track over time, as most secondary students do. I enjoyed the few times we did run into each other over the years and the memory chats we had.
Please take care and know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to the family on the passing of Frank. Our Moms played bridge together for many years. I m sure Anne and Maureen remember the hustle and bustle in the house when it was "Bridge Night". My contact was primarily with the girls, though my brother Brian worked in the same office as Frank for a number of years.
I wish you all comfort and peace.

Maureen and Anne We are so sorry to hear about Frank. Anne, in your card at Christmas you mentioned that he was very ill. I think that he has had several very tough years. I remember at Mom's funeral how funny he was, just loved his sense of humor. It is such a pleasure to be around people with a sense of humor. He will be missed. Mom, Dad and Paul are there for him. Thinking of you and his Family. Terry and Valerie

Frank was an imposing figure but gentle and fair. Anyone who remembers him knew his love of ketsup and a good burger.
Sandra, you had a great man!

Maureen and Anne

So sorry to read about Frank. Val sent me an email. Bless him and hope he's "catching up" with his Mom and Dad and other relatives.
Lost Ron in 2016 and have been in Seattle near Ronna since then.

Maureen , Anne and Sandra , saddened to hear of Franks passing . My Mom Marjorie was a great friend of Frank’s Mom Marg and our families shared times together when we were very young . I remember how proud Art and Marg were of Frank . Our family moved and I reconnected with Frank when his office as a probation officer was in the same building as mine in Dartmouth .I was always impressed how he truly cared for people ,his family and his neighborhood . I hope you find solace at this time in all the memories you have of a great life lived .

I was sad to see Frank's obituary yesterday. Frank and I were colleagues at the Museum of Natural History before I retired in 2012. The last time I saw Frank was about a year ago and while he always had a smile and a hug for me I knew he was being brave at that time. My sincere condolences to Frank's family, whom he loved so much. He was a memorable man. RIP Frank

Sandra & family, Anne & family, and Maureen,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the passing of Frank. We send our deepest and sincerest sympathy to all of you. Our friendship goes back many years from our fathers who shared their friendships for many years. I have always treasured our times together at the cottages - Ardmour and Sundeck. I am thankful that Frank is now at peace and no longer suffering.
God Bless you all.
