

Born in Sommerville, Mass., U.S.A., he was the son of the late Claire B. and Gladys M. (Griffin) Nickerson. He grew up in Halifax with his mother’s family and became a Canadian citizen in November 1952. He received his Chartered Accountant designation December 1959. He was employed with the Office of the Auditor General of Nova Scotia for 32 years, retiring because of health problems in 1983. He was a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Halifax, serving as an auditor for a number of years and was chairman of St. Mark’s Community Centre Board for 20 years. He also served as treasurer of Memorial Bells Committee. Nick loved sports, especially golf and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gertrude B. (Coles) Nickerson; daughters, Gladys (Keith) Keddy, Hammonds Plains, Jane Taylor, Ottawa; son Mark (Judy), Hubley; grandchildren, Richard (Natasha), Robyn (Kelly), Christine, Margaret, Emily and Julia. He was predeceased by son-in-law Bruce Taylor. Visitation at Cruikshanks Funeral Home 2032 Robie Street, Halifax, Tuesday, July 20, 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Russell and Gottingen Street, Wednesday, July 21 at 11AM., Reverend Janet Hatt officiating. Burial to follow in St. John’s Church Cemetery, Kempt Road, Halifax.
