Gretchen Gail Smith

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved sister/aunt Gretchen Smith. Gretchen was born on June 2, 1946 in Yarmouth, N.S. She was the youngest daughter of the late Mary and Ainsley Smith.

She worked at Dalhousie University for over 40 years in the Department of Math, statistics and Computer Science as an administrator.

She enjoyed going to the gym with her friends, gardening, swimming and her many trips to Florida.

She is survived by her sisters Kathryn Pettipas (Alvin), Judy MacDonald and nephews Bruce Pettipas (Ellen), Brian Pettipas (Judie), Garett MacDonald (Sharon), Dale MacDonald (Kiran). Also a great niece Brooklyn and great nephews Justin, Ian, and Grant, and special friend Phil.

She was predeceased by nephew Barrie and brother-in-law Barry.

A visitation will be held at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, on October 9, 2025, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The funeral service will take place October 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at Cruikshank's Funeral Home with burial at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, located at 3720 Windsor St, Halifax, NS, B3K 5G7.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation in her memory.
