Age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Friday afternoon, 26 January 2018. Gwen was born on March 5th 1930 in Vancouver, BC and was the only child of the late William and Violet Eades of Vancouver.
Gwen lead a very full and active life graduating from the University of British Columbia with a BA in Social Work, working in her chosen field, marriage, raising 3 children (Bill, Doug, Jennifer and several animals to boot!), numerous volunteer initiatives and an eclectic array of personal interests such as: reading, bridge, curling, golf, baseball and many more. One of the things she will be remembered by her family for is being a person who hated housework with a passion and therefore taught her children self-sufficiency at home and in life.
Gwen is predeceased by her two husbands of 25 and 20 years respectively, the first and father of her three children, Reay MacKenzie Johns a registered jeweller and gemologist; and the second, James A. Brown, a renown author and philatelist. She is survived by her three children, five grand children (Catherine, Sarah, Chelsea, Kenny and Michael), two great-grandchildren (Maria and Alex). Her step-children (Barb, Paul and Colin) and their families were a source of joy whose acceptance meant the world to her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hillside Wesleyan Church, 80 Chameau Crescent, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia on Wednesday, 31 January at 11:00 AM; reception to follow. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA.
