It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Helena Marie MacIntyre, age 79, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary on August 18, 2024.
Born and raised in Whitney Pier, Cape Breton NS, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Jedwiga Flynn.
Helena (Lee) was a strong and devoted Catholic that always put her family first. She spent 20 years as a member of the Holy Redeemer Sr. Choir in which she proudly participated in singing during the Halifax Papal Visit in 1984.
Lee was a stay at home mother for many years, only to return to the workforce later in life with Marks and Spencers and Lawtons Drugs.
Lee is survived by her daughter Helene Spampinato, Halifax, sons John (Lisa), Halifax and Dan (Tori), Dartmouth, her grandchildren Katie and Matthew Spampinato, Ryan and Paige MacIntyre, and great granddaughter Halston Spampinato. She is also survived by her brothers Ray (Julie) Flynn and Eddie Flynn, sister-in-law Helen (Lloyd) MacPherson, and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her loving husband John Raymond MacIntyre, son Marty MacIntyre, son-in-law Joe Spampinato, sister Delores Poirier, sister-in-law Judy Flynn, and brother-in-law Michael MacIntyre.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Holy Redeemer Parish Building Fund (Sydney NS), or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd at 11am from Holy Redeemer Church, Victoria Road, Sydney NS, with reception to follow at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville NS at a later date.
