
Hilary John Keniston Atherton (1970-2021) died on Saturday, July 3 after a long illness at the age of 50.
He graduated from the Halifax Grammar School in 1987 and then took a B.A. in Classics at Dalhousie, receiving the gold medal. During his final year he was diagnosed with cancer. Following treatment, he moved to Banff, Alberta where he pursued a career in skiing and tourism before returning to Nova Scotia in 2005. He then worked in construction. While on holiday, he suffered an accident in 2009. It left him with an injury from which he never recovered.
Hilary was a great outdoorsman and traveller, who loved undertakings and activities with others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 10 from 2-4 pm and 7-8:30 pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. The funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Basilica, Monday, July 12 at 10 am.
