Jian Wong, age 68, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary.
Jian was born in Taishan, Guangdong, China, where he grew up as the eldest of three siblings. He immigrated to Canada in 1987, initially working briefly in Prince Edward Island before establishing his tailor shop in Truro, Nova Scotia. Known around town as Mr. Wong, Jian was a gregarious man who brought warmth and kindness to everyone he met. Despite battling chronic pain from ankylosing spondylitis, he remained perennially positive and was always eager to help others.
A naturally curious and gentle man, Jian loved learning and continued attending ESL classes long after obtaining his Canadian citizenship. He was exceedingly patient and a gifted tailor, and he was deeply respected for his craft. He spent his final years at Saint Vincent's Nursing Home in Halifax, where he greeted everyone with a cheerful smile and a handshake. He took great joy in getting to see his son's cat, Snowy, over regular video calls.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Saint Vincent's Nursing Home for their compassionate care and kindness during Jian’s final years. Their attentiveness and support brought him comfort and their dedication will always be remembered.
Jian was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Wong, his daughter, Jody Wong, and his son, Jonathan Wong (Nafisah Ali). A celebration of his life and memory will take place on April 2, 2025, at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home from 3 PM to 5 PM.
