Jiri Josef Novak

It is with great sadness that we inform friends and family about the unexpected and sudden death of Jiri Novak on Tuesday June 20, 2023 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Jiri was born in Prague ,The Czech Republic March 22 1940. Jiri emigrated to Canada as a young man largely due to the “Jack London “ Adventure stories that he had read and loved. He worked all over Canada and then settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He found the place he loved the very most in Peggy’s Cove. Jiri worked many happy years for the famous Sou Wester Restaurant in Peggy’s Cove. He lived in that community in a charming little white cabin.

Jiri was a great walker and met many many people during his long, long, daily walks. In recent years, longer walks had to be made shorter. However, walking still remained one of his favourite activities to do each day. We will miss seeing Jiri walking all over Halifax.

Jiri will be missed by: his immediate family in Prague; Joeanne Coffey’s family; Jiri’s good neighbours in North End Halifax and all of his friends in Peggy’s Cove.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration of life will take place in the future.
