

Born and raised on MacLeods Hill in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Daniel and Katherine MacIntyre.
John had a passion for hockey and played competitively with the Sydney River Hockey Squad in the early 1960’s including the Nova Scotia Intermediate Championship against Pictou. He later coached the Villanova School Hockey Team in Whitney Pier. He also had a great fondness of Cape Breton and its music, especially that of the fiddle. He retired from Canada Post after 30 years of service.
He was a devoted catholic and kept faith and family at the center of his life. Known to many as “Ray”, he was loved by all who knew him, and was often remembered by his saying of "God Bless" to all who had the pleasure of meeting him.
John is survived by his loving wife Helena (Lee) MacIntyre, daughter Helene Spampinato, Halifax, sons John (Lisa) Halifax, and Dan (Tori) Dartmouth, his grandchildren Katie and Matthew Spampinato, Ryan and Paige MacIntyre, and great grand daughter Halston Spampinato . He is also survived by his sister Helen (Lloyd) MacPherson, brothers-in-law Ray (Julie) Flynn, and Eddie Flynn, daughter-in-law Amanda MacIntyre as well as many nieces and nephews, and his good friends Edward “Neddie” Seymore (Hamilton) and Donnie Smith (Sydney).
He is predeceased by his son Marty MacIntyre, brother Michael (Duke) MacIntyre, son-in-law Joe Spampinato, and sisters-in-law Delores Porier, and Judy Flynn.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Holy Redeemer Parish Building Fund, Sydney, NS or the Canadain Diabetes Association. Family flowers only.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 28 at 11am from St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax with a reception to follow. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS.
