Wayne was a devoted husband to high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Ann (MacLean), and proud father to Heather (Esteban Parra), Valerie (Timothy Kalheim), Natalie (Sadettin Ak), and Susan (Moisés Michel), and “best granddad ever” to Ana and Susi Parra, Quinlan and Colin Kalheim, and Enis and Erin Ak. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews who valued his counsel and his company.
Wayne was born in Inverness, Cape Breton and moved to Halifax with his mother, Mabel MacLean and twin younger brothers, Jimmy and Dick (both deceased), after their father, Henry MacLean, died.
Wayne attended Queen Elizabeth High School where he was captain of the football team and met Ann. He went on to graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering from Dalhousie/Tech.
After a few years working in Charlottetown and Toronto, Wayne and Ann returned to Halifax in 1966 when Wayne took a position with L.E. Shaw Ltd. His quiet determination and hard work ethic led to him reaching the position of President of The Shaw Group.
After retiring in 1997, Wayne enjoyed nothing better than a ride on his BMW motorcycle with friends, working on projects at the family cottage on St. Margaret’s Bay, and spending time with family. He walked in Point Pleasant Park nearly every morning.
Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff in the neurology ward 7.4 at the QEII who took the time to ease Wayne’s passing and the family’s grief. You know who you are.
Wayne was a humble, quiet man and there will be no service at his request.
Please remember Wayne with a donation to Hope for Wildlife.
