

Dad was born on July 16, 1935, to Helena (Brophy) and Joseph MacDonald at their home in Baddeck. Though his heart remained in Cape Breton, he left in the 1950s for Ottawa where he married and started a family with whom he returned to Nova Scotia in 1972, eventually settling in Lower Sackville. Dad returned to Cape Breton in 1991 and remained there until his final move in 2016 to Fall River to be closer to his children.
Dad’s working years included time with the RCAF, CN Telegraph, Bell and MT&T from which he retired in 1994. His favourite activities were going for a drive and going to Tim Horton’s in Fall River each day where the staff knew him by his name and his order which never changed! He loved Cape Breton fiddle music and step dancing as well as a good square set.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Jean (Ottawa), Rod and Pauline (Dartmouth/Cheticamp), James and Marilyn (Baddeck), George (in infancy), sister, Helena Cody (Lunenburg), and daughter, Patricia (in infancy). Dad is survived by sister, Ann MacLean (Ottawa), and brother and sister-in-law, Bernie and Judy (Baddeck). Dad was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Vivian. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Lee Fraser (Whycocomagh).
Dad is survived by daughter, Sister Teresa MacDonald, of the Franciscans of Halifax along with daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dean Jamieson (Windsor Junction) and granddaughter, Sarah Rose (Cole).
Dad is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Owen and Debbie (Windsor Junction), step grandson, Jason (Genny), step great grandchildren Ava, Aria, Makayla (Danny) and step great, great grandchildren, Brandon, Jason and Eleanor. Dad was predeceased by step great grandson, Jermaine.
Dad is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Mackie Miller (Fall River), grandson Joe (Jade), great grandson, Mason who was the light of his life and Mason’s Mom, Kristina. He is also survived by step granddaughter, Carrie (Chris) step great grandchildren, Devon (Maddie), Kelsie (Ryan) and step great grandson, Levi, along with step granddaughter, Tammy (Chris) and step great granddaughter, Callie.
Dad is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families whom he loved.
Funeral will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 5th, at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 6476 Bayers Road, Halifax, with reception to follow in the church basement.
