Judith Ann Clayton, LPN

CLAYTON, Judith Ann –71 years old, passed away suddenly at home in Halifax, NS on September 27, 2023. Born in Halifax, Judi was the daughter of the late Phyllis Clayton.
Judith graduated from the former Dartmouth Vocational School as a CNA (LPN). She was employed by the Victoria General Hospital her entire nursing career, retiring in 2008.
Affectionately called “Judi”, she was a member of New Horizons Baptist Church, where she served as a teller for over 20 years until her death. She was also currently serving as the Chairperson of the church’s Personnel Committee. She grew up in the church, learning about the love of God in Sunday School, Explorers, and Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT) with the late Edith Sparks as her counselor. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and an avid Bible study participant. She especially enjoyed the Tuesday Tune-Up Bible study and you could count on Judi’s faithful attendance in worship and all other church functions. She rarely missed any church gathering!
Judi loved to knit and crochet. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed engrossing herself in a good book. She was well-organized and took copious notes, keeping track of all aspects of her life. Judi was a sentimental person and kept cards and mementos of special times. She also enjoyed watching game shows, soaps, and reality TV.
She is survived by sisters Carol Clayton, Toronto and Alice Clayton, Halifax; niece / sister Juanita Clayton, Montreal; goddaughter Amanda Farmer, BC; godson Christopher Bailey, Halifax; cousin/ sister Myra Bailey; along with nieces, nephews, several cousins, and many lifelong friends, including her Olivet community, having lived there for 45 years.
Judi is also survived by her special circle of childhood girlfriends who loved and supported her all through her life. They celebrated birthdays and special occasions together. She loved them all.
She was predeceased by her mother Phyllis Clayton; grandmother Hattie (Gibson) Clayton; uncle Kenneth Clayton; aunts Muriel Lorde and Jean Simms; nephew Joseph Lorde; godson Ryan Lorde; and godfather Gordon Bowen.
Visitation will take place at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on Thursday October 5th from 6-8 pm. Funeral service on Friday October 6th at 11:00 am New Horizons Baptist Church, 5457 Cornwallis Street, Halifax, with Dr. Rhonda Britton officiating. Repast following in the church hall. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery following the repast.
Special thanks to neighbor Jay, who sometimes ran Judi’s errands; childhood friend Deacon Melinda Daye, for her lifelong friendship and assistance during this time; and Bonita Fraser, who became a close friend and often drove Judi to church.
