Age 96, passed away on April 3, 2015 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Folkestone-on-Kent, England. “Kay” was the eldest child of the late William and Mary (Moran) Purcell and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, brothers James and Fred Purcell and sisters Mary Babineau and Margie Eldershaw. Mom is survived by her sons Alan (Nancy), Fred, Michael (Bev); daughters Kathleen Gustys, Margret Devlin, Janet Hodder, Elizabeth Stuppiello (Rob); grandchildren Carla, Lee, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Andrea, Michael, Melissa, Jessica, Lauren, and Paulo; many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a devout Catholic and believed strongly in the power of prayer. She was a lifelong member of Saint Patrick’s Parish and for many years worked on fundraising activities for the Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. A great conversationalist and storyteller, Mom was known as the family historian. Many happy summers were spent in Lawrencetown with her sisters and their families. She was kind to both friends and strangers and had great compassion for animals. She will be deeply missed by her family.
Special thanks to our niece Andrea for her devotion to Mom and our cousin Margie for her caring and kindness.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Patrick’s Church on Friday, April 10 at 11 am with Father Jean-Marc Laporte officiating. There will be no visitation. Family flowers only. Donations to Saint Patrick’s Restoration Society or an animal charity would be appreciated. Online condolences at:www.cruikshankhalifaxfuneralhome.com
