We regret to announce the passing of our Father and Husband Leon James Buchanan 70 of Halifax on February 23rd, 2021. Born in East Green Harbour, he was the son of the late Herc and Norma Buchanan.
After growing up in Lockport, he completed vocational school in Shelburne and then moved to Halifax to pursue a job as a mechanic and became a service manager for City Mazda where he spent 40 years of his career. When most retired he fulfilled his dream of owning and running his own business for the next 10 years. He loved horseshoes, billiards and hunting and was always the life of the party. He was a wealth of knowledge when it came to cars.
He was always happy to lend a helping hand to those in need, regardless of the time of day, you could always call. His specialties were fixing cars or offering guidance with court. With a passion for engines and he could drive anything which included motorcycles boats or antique cars. He loved to dance and have fun at family events catching the eye of the elderly ladies who loved to dance with him. He came prepared with his flask in his coat and sometimes he would get caught spiking the little old ladies tea at weddings to get them up and moving. He was an adventurous prankster with his friends and was always the first to accept a dare, dangerous or not. At home, the door was always open to family and friends and you would often find him in his chair enjoying a drink watching a hockey game or the news.
Leon is survived by his wife Rita, Daughters Janice Buchanan, Rebecca (Buchanan) Henderson (Dave), Son Daniel Buchanan (Emily), Sister Lorraine (Buchanan) Swansburg (Charles); Brother, Richard Buchanan (Wanda) and his three grandchildren Brooke, Hugh and Jane. He is pre-deceased by infant Sister Janice.
Memorial donations can be made in Leon’s name to Souls Harbour or a charity of choice.
