

It is with sadness that the family of Lillian Janette Taper announces her death. Janette passed away on June 10, 2024 surrounded by her beloved family and close friends.
Janette was born in Vancouver, BC, and raised in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.
She received her bachelor and master's degrees from McGill University and in 1976 received her Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from Virginia Tech (VPI) and continued to teach on its Faculty there until 1993 when she returned to Canada to teach in the Department of Human Nutrition and Foods at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. During her teaching career in Virginia she was the recipient of several academic awards.
Janette also received a master's degree in Theology from AST in Halifax and later taught Ethics at MSVU.
Janette made significant contributions to the area of Human Nutrition and Theology research.
She is survived by her beloved daughters Charlotte (Sirain) and Alissa and her dearest grandson Mateo, all of Halifax. She is also survived by her sister Anne Sommerville (Frank) and her nephews William (Katherine) of New Bedford, MA, and John (Jenna) of Dartmouth, NS. She is also survived by many cousins most notably Linda (Andrew) of Toronto and many good friends made over a period of 50 years, Daphine, Ruth and James.
Janette spent many days swimming at the Waeg. She was a voracious reader having started a reading club with her cousin Linda this past summer. She was very active in needlework, most notably the needlework displayed on many walls in her home. Another interest was music, she played the piano and loved singing. She has asked that many of her favorite hymns be sung at her memorial.
The family is most appreciative to Janette's caregivers, especially Stephanie Wheatley and Kelly, over the past two years.
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.
