The family of Margaret Annabelle Rogers are sad to announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother and friend on April 30, 2014, after a very brief illness. Margaret was born in St. Peter’s, Cape Breton on May 2, 1912, to the late Henrietta and Norman MacKenzie. She spent most of her long and happy life in Halifax and lived in her own home until recently. Margaret was a kind a generous lady who loved good food and was well known for her cooking skills. She generously donated many meals to Hope Cottage and to anyone else in need. She enjoyed bingo and playing cards but, most of all, she enjoyed spending time in the company of her family. She had a great sense of humour and her smile could light up a room.
Margaret is survived by her six children, Carol (Hfx.); Norma Findlay (Bob) Barrie, Ontario; Bernard (Deborah), Mahone Bay; Gary (Cindy), Waverley; Gail (Barry) Kenney, St. Peter’s, Cape Breton; Coleen Youden (Darrell), Kentville. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Robbie, Robin, Alycia and Ryan Findlay; Danny and Stephen Rogers; Scott (Lori) Rogers and Amy Piercey (Larry). Margaret was also great-grandmother to Joseph and Addison Piercey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Bernard in 1989 and her brothers: Charlie, John, Roddie, James and her sisters: Bessie, Helen and Mary.
Many thanks for the wonderful assistance given by the Red Cross and VON care workers while Margaret was at home. Also, thanks to the staff at the Green Street, Berkeley, who gave her peace, contentment and friendship in her final months. A special thanks to the medical staff at the Halifax Infirmary, especially Dr. Campbell, who did everything they could and made her feel comfortable in her final moments.
