

Age 97, of Halifax, passed away on November 14, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home. Marie was born May 27, 1916 in New Glasgow and raised in D’Escousse, Cape Breton; she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sarah Poirier. Orphaned at a very young age, Marie was raised by her maternal grandparents, the late Arthur and Agnes Poirier. Marie is survived by her son, Ken (Doreen) AuCoin, Greenwood, and daughters Colleen (Robert) Hartlen, Peterborough, Dola AuCoin, Kentville, Daphne (Brent King), Dartmouth, Sherrill (Greg) Kinsman, Kathryn (Peter Merlin), Denise, Marilyn (Stephen) Butler, and Beth, all of Halifax. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul AuCoin and Denise Lewis, Bryan and Michelle Hartlen, Katherine King, Natalie and Angela Kinsman, Colleen and Michael Merlin, Jason Tucker and Ryan Tucker and 6 great-grandchildren. She is survived as well by several cousins including special cousins, Claire Baccardax and Sanford McGrath, a number of nephews and nieces including special nieces, Lorraine Connors, Anne Davison and Shelia Savoury and special friends Doris Devenne and Leona Poirier. Marie was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Aucoin, second husband, Stuart Tucker, brother, Wilfred, and daughter Claire, in infancy. Marie wanted to thank her wonderful family and Marie and her family wish to thank the 4th Floor staff at St. Vincent’s for their care and kindness. Visitation Thursday, November 21 at 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Windsor St, Halifax. A funeral mass will be held Friday, November 22 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta Church, Normandy Drive, Halifax. Burial immediately following mass at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society - Hand in Hand, a food bank or any other charity.
