Mary was a very resilient woman, she was courageous and hardworking, loving and loyal, always positive and supportive, she was a daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grand mother. Loved and adored by all who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, siblings, friends and co-workers.
Mary was born April 13th, 1936, in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Stanley and Helen Ingram. Living in Halifax in her early years she attended and graduated from St Patrick’s High School. In the mid 1950’s she travelled with her mother Helen and brother Gerald to Vancouver, BC. There a new life began with the start of her career and meeting her future husband Michael Rowarth of Mansfield, Nottingham, England.
In 1969 Mary and her family of four moved to Mansfield, Nottingham, England. There, Mary’s career as a legal assistant started at Armstrong Brothers in Mansfield, a career which would cover over 40 years. In 1979 Mary and her family moved back to Halifax, NS as she missed her family and the ocean. Mary’s Law firm career continued at Daily Black and Moreira and McInnis Cooper and Robertson in Halifax. After a distinguished and hardworking career, she retired in 2000. Mary left her career with many great memories and friends from both England and here in Halifax.
Mary was very proud and extremely devoted to her family on Berlin Street. She seamlessly played a dual role balancing her career and the running and providing of the household. Selflessly and lovingly, every day she provided for her mother Helen Ingram and her two sons Stephen and Christopher. Mary’s home was an open door to any family and friend that visited. Inside her home, she prioritized hugs and kisses and made sure family and friends left feeling special. The words “I will love you and leave you “and “Mind how you go “ were constant as the door opened and closed.
During retirement, Mary focused on her passions of her family, house, friends, talking with neighbors. Additionally, she was always active by travelling, walking, taking care of her garden, cooking, shoveling, raking and being a diehard Raptors basketball fan. Mary attended St. Theresa’s Church and her unwavering faith built her foundation of strength. Her faith is what kept her resilient and strong for others during times of hardship, being a rock of support always.
In Mary’s later years she was still very active and full of life, she found great joy in the marriage of her grandson Nathan to his wife Rieka and the birth of their child, Mary’s great grand- daughter Nola. Mary loved to walk and play with her great grand -daughter Nola and those memories will be cherished. Mary’s one wish was to live in her beloved Berlin Street home for her entire life and she accomplished that goal. Life is how you make people feel and Mary, Mum, Nan made you feel loved and special.
