Dear Dad: Whatever lies beyond this existence became more beautiful after your arrival. We will be forever inspired by the courage you showed while in pain for so long, starting at home then the past 4 months in hospital. I am grateful for the time we shared and the feelings we expressed. I will always feel humbled by your grace and understanding that I had to spend most of my time at home helping to care for mom. I know that the kind of love the two of you shared was a gift to be admired by all.
We are comforted that you are not alone and have joined your parents, William and Lillian (Oickle) and your brothers, Maxwell, Albert and Calvin. I know your spirit will help to comfort the beautiful lady you were so devoted to since you first met and your marriage 61 years ago, my mother Ruby (Wolfe), and me of whom you were so proud, your son, Jeffrey. We saw your love and devotion for your other family members at home: your daughter-in-law Oxana and your sister-in-law Dorothy Wolfe. You are also in the thoughts and prayers of your sisters, Joan (Larry) Tiffany of Centerville, Utah and Lillian (Keith) Wyer of Greenfield; sisters-in-law, Sylvia, Hunts Point, Elizabeth, Greenfield, Beverley, Liverpool, Margaret Wolfe, Halifax, and brother-in-law, Forest Wolfe, Diligent River.
Your years of service to others was a rare gift. It began when at 16 years old you received the Silver Cross Medal for saving a young girl from drowning in the Mersey River. It continued during your time as a member of the Marine Division of the RCMP, then as a police officer in Bridgewater, then many years with the Canadian Coast Guard serving on several ships.
Most humbling and special to experience were the years of love and devotion you gifted us with after your retirement. This included witnessing your journey with mom through many years of square dancing. Caring for our cats was also very important to you. Most important was making sure we always had what we needed and keeping our home in order in many ways.
We will always remember and be grateful for the care and compassion you were blessed with from the nurses and staff of Unit 9A at the Victoria General Hospital. We felt so comforted when they told us of how much you meant to them, that you were a part of their family.
We admire your courage. We are inspired by your love and care for us. We are grateful that you are at peace and are waiting for us. We thank God that we were worthy of being blessed with your presence. You are and always will be with us. Mom will be loved and cared for. Until we are together again, we love you, Dad.
