Nita Hemsworth

Juanita (Nita) of Halifax, N.S. passed away on Monday, February 27th, 2017. Born in Windsor, N.S. on June 14th, 1928 to the late Dundonald and Maude Smith, she was married to the late Joe Hemsworth for over 45 years. Her love and pride for her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was the center of her world.

Mum was very proud of her early years working in Windsor at the Telegraph Co, movie theatre, textile and lime companies and at Crocket’s Jewellery Store. She loved church, music, her favourite colour was blue and loved a 'good cup of tea'. Mum always enjoyed a good laugh and would often say 'no fools, no fun'. She loved the heat of the sun shining on her face, to dance with our Dad but most of all she was happiest in life with a baby in her arms.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Joseph J Hemsworth and infant son John, as well as two brothers, Guy and Ted Smith.

She is survived by her 10 children: Mary (Gary Landry); Dan (Donna Charlton); Theresa Hemsworth Peterson; Peggy (Mike LaLeune); Johanna (Pat Towsey); Christina (Roy Swain); Anita (Christian Jessen); Karen (Alan Mullen); Vicky (Michael Craig); Lyn (Mark Lance). Her 20 grandchildren: Justin and Christopher Landry; David, Patrick and Ryan Hemsworth; Melissa Wood; Joseph and André LaLeune; Ashley, James, Cameron, Emily and Lauchlin Swain; Maria and Serena Jessen; Adam and Hayley Mullen; Matthew Craig; Nathan and Jared Lance. She was also a very special Great Grandmother (GG) to Julia, Gavin and William Hemsworth.

She is also survived by sisters Mary Laplante, Catherine Watson, Louise Hebb, Helen Poehl, Denise Rogers and brother Donald Smith.

Visitation will take place at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8.

Funeral at St. Theresa's Church, North Street, Friday March 3,2017 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow with private internment.
