It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Peter Anthony Leech announce his peaceful passing on October 2nd, 2025. He had just celebrated his 92nd birthday less than a week prior at home with his family on a beautiful early fall day that we were all fortunate to spend together.
Peter is survived by his spouse of 59 years Diana (Hulland) Leech originally of Stourbridge Worcestershire UK , Daughter Fiona (Leech) Comeau of Halifax, Fiona’s husband Wayne and Grandsons Alexander and Jack Comeau.
Peter was born on September 27th, 1933, in Altrincham, a suburb of Manchester England (UK) to pre-deceased parents Alfred Leech and Gladys (Dean) Leech.
His childhood was molded by the gathering and enduring storms Great Britain and the world endured throughout WWII along with the jubilation that VE (Victory in Europe) day brought as he grew into his teens.
Peter attained English Secondary GCE Levels and then attended Newton Technical College in Manchester, England from 1950 to 1954 to become an accredited Dental Appliance Technician.
Ever the entrepreneur, Peter gained experience in his field working for a Dentist in Cheshire (Manchester) during the day while also running a floristry business in his spare time.
His skills and expertise eventually lead he and Diana to Halifax NS, Canada where he took a position at Dalhousie University School of Dentistry in 1967. In 1975 they started their business “Peter A. Leech Orthodontic Appliances Limited” located in the Halifax Professional Centre on Spring Garden Road, Halifax which they grew into a successful and respected entity until they retired in 1998.
Peter gave back to his profession and became part of the “DAL Dentistry School” faculty from 1980 into the nineties as a Laboratory Instructor and Lecturer in the Division of Orthodontics. He was a member of the Orthodontics Technicians Association and the Institute of Maxillo-Facial Technology. He was an award-winning lecturer speaking at multiple international conferences in his field of specialty.
He had a passion for History, Cycling, Running, Sailing, Italian Motor Cars (Lancia) of a certain vintage and Genealogy which he curated for his Grand Sons in the hopes they continue his work.
A natural debater of current and historical events, Peter would relish the opportunity to press his arguments to whomever was sitting across from him in conversation.
Peter and Diana enjoyed a fulfilling retirement that included winters in Spain, Mexico, Ireland, and France in which he realized a lifelong dream of witnessing the “Tour De France.”
He slowed down just a smidge as he entered his eighties but was still able to have a passion to buy and sell properties, classic cars, art, and antiques. No one and we mean No one ever received “One More Penny” out of Peter from a deal.
Peter lived and died 100% on his terms and we his family take comfort in that as we will miss him dearly.
He is resting at Cruickshank’s Funeral Home. As per Peter’s wishes, his immediate family will hold a private burial with no visitation.
The family wishes to express our deepest thanks to the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Health Team who did everything they could to make Peter comfortable in his last hours with us.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a charity of your choice.
