
WELLENBACK, Polly Monner – 62, of Halifax, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 14, 2012. Polly was born on December 2, 1949, in Moline, Ill., the daughter of Ray and Joan (Riddick) Monner. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Scott; her brother Phil; his wife, Daphne; nephews, Paul and Ray; and nieces, Laura and Iris. A folksinger and accomplished guitarist in her youth, Polly was a beloved student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, whom she met in 1970 and who appointed her the director of Karma Dzong (Shambhala Centre) in Boulder Colo. and nicknamed her the “Daughter of Karma Dzong.” She moved to Halifax in 1986 where she resided until her death. A deeply loving person, she was known for her kindness, humour, and wisdom. She was unwavering in her devotion to her dogs and to her teacher and was instrumental in the development of many of his projects, as well as teaching and working with meditation students in North American and Europe. Always a good and helpful friend to many, her loss is heartbreaking to her friends. A funeral service was held at Shambhala Centre and other dharma Centres on August 18.
