To the family of the late Dr. Parkash:

It is with deep regret that Doctors Nova Scotia received word of the death of your family member, Dr. Rajendar Parkash, back in August.  I know I speak for all our members when I extend to you and your family the association’s sincerest sympathy.

Doctors Nova Scotia has made a contribution to the Memorial Fund for Nova Scotia Physicians in memory of Dr. Parkash.  The fund was established in 1975 to honor the memory of its deceased members.  The income from the memorial fund is used to support the education of students in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University.

In 1979 I went to Yarmouth to start my first medical practice, with my wife Helene and our first baby girl ,Jacinte, later joined by her sister Janik.We joined the Yarmouth community, being especially involved, of course, with the medical part, including Raj and his wife, fellow physician Asha, and their sons Ravi and Raman. Raj was completely involved in Medicine, devoted to patient care, while trying to live a balanced life. He did so for many, many years. A few days before he died, we ran into Raj outside his condo here in Halifax. We had similarly Met Asha walking in the Public Gardens a year or two ago. He was mentally very well and,though he was in declining physical health, he was stoic and not complaining. I am privileged and grateful to have known him and his family

His compassion for so many was an inspiration and set an example for all of us. I worked with Dr. Parkash for several years when he was on the council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. His contributions to insights in medical education of international medical graduates, medical ethics, physician behaviour, and medical competency were especially helpful. He brought calmness and steadiness to others and was highly respected by his colleagues and me. A wonderful man.

Please accept my sincere condolences on Raj’s passing. He was such a valued member of the Yarmouth medical community during his time here and he was sorely missed when he relocated to Halifax.
I clearly remember his attentive concern for our family on several occasions when family members had medical issues. His house calls were so comforting and so appreciated.
I was also fortunate to play golf with Raj on several occasions. These games have special memories.

I was saddened to hear this news.  Dr. Parkash was a colleague for many years, and a mentor when I was a resident.  I don't think I've ever met a man so dedicated to the profession, even after his retirement!  His patients were fortunate to have him, as was the Nova Scotia medical community.  My condolences.

We were so sad to hear of Raj Uncle's passing. He was always so kind and caring to all of us Madhvani kids growing up. I will never forget when he got his new Mercedes car and came over to show my dad and take him for a spin. He asked me to join them and even let me drive it. He was always so lively and charismatic at our Indian potluck get togethers in Yarmouth over the years and was admired by so many people who were lucky to have known him. Uncle was a huge supporter of our Indian community in Halifax. He loved playing Sodoku, never let his health challenges get him down and was always walking and always smiling.  We feel so blessed that he was able to visit our home recently.  To Asha, and all of the family .I send you my deepest sympathy.I have so many wonderful memories of Dr Parkash .He was our Diabetes Centres Medical Advisor for many decades.He was also our friend. He told the best jokes,stories, and had that unforgetable smile that we looked forward to seeing . I admired the innumerable times he  went above ,and beyond the call of duty to help our Diabetes  team  deliver care to those in need. I am so lucky to have worked with him .He will always be remembered.

My sincere condolences to Dr.Parkash's family. In the 70's and 80's my father was his patient at the Yarmouth Hospital and because of the excellent care he was given, he was able to have a few more years with us despite many health issues. Then in the 90's I became a type I diabetic at the age of 46 and Dr. Parkash was the one who helped me with the many challenges of this disease.


May the Almighty give peace to  the departed soul and give courage and will to the family  to bear this irreparable loss. Om Shanti!

Asha and family: Linda Rose just told me of Dr. Parkash's passing. I am saddened to hear this. He was a wonderful and dedicated physician. His judgement was sound, and he dedicated so many years to his patients and expert advice to other practising physicians. We all missed him when he left Yarmouth. I still remember having a tea break with his faithful secretary, Barb, many years ago. Times like that you discovered his comical and witty side. RIP Dr. Parkash.

Although I never had the experience of providing patient care with Raj, I remember him as a gentle soul with a passion for learning even after he retired.  He regularly attended Grand Rounds in Halifax and frequently asked probing and interesting questions.  During the pandemic, he continued to participate virtually (with a little help from family).  He made a major contribution to health care in Nova Scotia and we all are grateful for that.


My sincere condolences to Dr. Parkash’s family. As representative of the pharmaceutical industry, I had many opportunities to visit professionally with Dr, Prakash and witness his dedication and compassion for his patients at the Yarmouth Hospital. As another renowned internist told me, “the people in Yarmouth are in good hands with Dr. Prakash”. Our deepest condolences to the family for the loss of Dr. Parkash. He was held in very high esteem by my father, Dr. Lionel d'Entremont, who so often turned to his colleague for assistance with his patients. We have known Rajinder for10 years with very fond and happy memories. He was our upstairs neighbour we made  a foursome playing  bridge and he was always my partner, he enjoyed and played well with  great concentration .we not only played  Pami used to entertain him and Asha  with Urdu poetry which he enjoyed  and it was very endearing to see him  I know him as a very decent and a kind gentleman, Pami and myself both will miss him a lot.

I am truly saddened by your loss of Dr Parkash. I had the greatest pleasure of working with him in Yarmouth. He was an amazing diagnostician mostly without the need for diagnostic tests although he ordered them as that was the standard of practice. I had the greatest respect for him and was honored to be considered a friend. I have many fond memories and funny stories of our experiences in ICU. He cared so deeply for the patients and worked without considering his own needs. (Sleep and food etc) Yarmouth was truly blessed to have him for so many years .May he rest in peace. My sincere condolences. I worked with your father and husband in Yarmouth ICU. I remember many nights  Mrs Dr. Parkash had called the ICU to say that Raj had not come home for supper asking could we make him a cup of tea. Next time he came in the ICU door we caught him and sat him down for 5 minutes. He worked tirelessly for his patients. He would often call in the middle of the night to check on them, looking for updates, and making adjustments.
