Magahay, Ronald Gareth, 82 of Fletcher Lake, NS passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016. Born October 21, 1933 in Lindsay, ON. A musical prodigy as a young man, Ron’s love of music and the joy it brought to people’s hearts shaped his entire life whether it was studying opera at the Royal Conservatory, serving as tenor soloist at Toronto’s Yorkminster Park, or crooning “King of the Road” as his onstage persona, Danny Adams. Ron’s numerous business ventures were also fueled by his creativity and included publishing, art supply distribution, and operating the renowned Manuge Galleries in Halifax: the city that was his home for almost 40 years.
After music what mattered most was family and especially children. He was proud of his work as a founding director of the Emily Fund of NS to provide insulin pumps for children and especially proud when the Fund’s advocacy moved government to pay for the pumps themselves.
He was deeply loved and is already missed by his wife Gloria Magahay; children Wendy Magahay (Garry McLaughlin), Paul Magahay (Deb Magahay), Rosemary Pick (Greg Pick), Christina Dempsey, Cathy Otto, Nicole Angus (Fraser Angus), and Colette Boulton (who pre-deceased him); his grandchildren Amy, Ali, Liam, Shane, Jessica, Courtney, Brittany, Riley, and Stephen; and many great-grandchildren.
The family is most grateful to Ron’s good friends at the Knights of Columbus, Saint Rose of Lima Church in Fall River for their support. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 200 Hants Community Hospital for their care, kindness and support to Ron and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the work of the Palliative Care Centre of Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, Nova Scotia.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 1-3pm at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, NS.
