Devanney, Ruth Lunam - It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth “Peg” Devanney, 86, of Halifax, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Ruth Lunam Poley, the daughter of Bevan and Flora (Duncan) Poley of Tide Head, N.B. A homemaker all her life, she will always be remembered for her gentle, loving spirit and the smile she had for one and all. Ruth had time for everyone and produced a legacy of warmth, kindness and love. As a young woman she had an affinity for race horses, and drove a sulky when training them for her father on their farm in Tide Head. In later years her love of the outdoors took her to the beach in Caribou, Pictou County in the summer, where she spent time with family and friends. She leaves behind a family who owe much of their happiness in life to her, and who will be forever thankful for being a part of her life.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Murray Devanney; children Carol (Ken) Francis, Stellarton, Brian (Sally) Dartmouth, Gary, Halifax, Eric (Marion), Truro, Ellen(Donald) Campbell , Dale Walker (Harold White), Halifax, Peter (Shelley), Ottawa and Juli (Fred) Rhodenizer, Halifax, 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sisters Jeanetta, Ottawa and Marion (Lorne Barclay), Parksville, B.C.; brothers Bevan (Bertha), Tide Head, N.B. and Dave (Marie) Poley, Mt. Hope, Ont.. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers Robert and Harold Poley.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Monday, April 25, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home on Windsor St. A mass in Ruth’s honor will be celebrated at 10:30 on Tuesday, April 26 at St. Theresa’s Church on North St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the QEII Foundation or a charity of your choice.
