

PURCELL (Hennessy), Ruth Bernadette "Bobby" - 89, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Guest Home, peacefully with her family after a long, heartfelt battle with dementia. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Ellen (Manette) Hennessy.
Ruth loved Sunday afternoon drives with her family & friends, gardening and was a dedicated Catholic at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Halifax. Ruth worked with the Mounted Police in her younger years and was known for her family celebrations (and numerous lobster boils). She was devoted to her husband ‘Freddie’ and family, particularly her daughter and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed, and forever remembered by her family and friends.
She is survived by her sisters Marjorie Keddy and Eleanor Hennessy; daughter, Barbara Ann Perry; grandchildren, Nalani, Jennifer and Laura; and great-grandchildren Lily and Maia as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick; brothers, Harold and John Hennessy; and sisters, Dorothy (Sister Mary Stanislaus) and Minnie.
The family will be receiving friends at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, on, Monday, April 11, 2016, from 2-4 pm & 6-8 p.m. A family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Vincent’s Guest Home for the extra care and attention she required. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of one's choice.
