It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” Joseph Grandy on May 4, 2026, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 89. Born in Garnish, Newfoundland, Tom took great pride in being a Canada Day baby, arriving on July 1, 1936.
Tom shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carolyn Ethel (Meisner). He will be dearly missed by his children, Kathy (Sylvain), Susan, and David (Charleen); his granddaughters, Kassandra (Carine) and Jordyn; and his grandson, Dawson. He was also delighted to recently welcome his first great-grandson, Xavier.
He is remembered by his brother Eldon and sister Elaine and was predeceased by his parents, Garfield and Sylvia Ann Grandy.
Tom found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, including watching football and baseball, especially the Yankees. A dedicated golfer, he was a proud thirty-year member of Brightwood Golf Club and shared his love of the game with Carolyn, their children, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and trout fishing and was known for his remarkable knowledge of history and geography, which he shared generously with those around him.
Kathy, Susan, and David extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, 3 East, with special recognition to Charity and Emily, for their kindness and compassionate care in Tom’s final days.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home in Halifax on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Stroke Foundation or Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home Foundation.
