Tommy McDonald

It is with great sorrow that the families of Thomas (Tommy) Carl McDonald, 53, announce his sudden death on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home. Tommy was the son of Beryl(DeLouchry) and (the late Hugh) McDonald and is survived by sisters, Cathy (David) Higgins, Halifax, Terry (Kenneth) Malcolm, Toronto, brothers Bobby (Barb), Kitchener and John (Bernadette) Halifax, nieces Bridget, Kate Maureen and Margaret Higgins, Katie McDonald and Alicia (Nick Robinson) Malcolm; nephews Conor Malcolm and Neil McDonald; and grandnephew Carter Jack Robinson. A lifelong resident of Halifax, Tommy was educated at St. Thomas Aquinas School, St. Patrick’s High School, St. Mary’s University, and graduated from the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in Construction Administration Technology. He was formerly with Sun Construction and Nelson Brothers, and most recently employed with Canada Post Corporation for the past seventeen years. Tommy had many interests, including photography (especially vintage cameras) and other collectable antiques. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, being a Cincinnati Bengals fan. Tommy went through the ranks of minor hockey and played for St. Pat’s High School. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Queensland, where he spent time at the beach, scuba diving and recently upgrading the cottage. Many happy times were spent there over the years for family gatherings and other celebrations, especially if there was lobster on the menu. Tommy will be dearly missed by his mother, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, his many friends and co-workers at Canada Post. Visitation will be at Cruikshank’s on Robie Street, Monday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church Tuesday May 11 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
