

Ashe, William (Bill) Stevenson 84, passed away on May 14, 2012 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre after a hard fought and lengthy illness. Born in Halifax, N.S. Bill was the youngest son of the late Edward John Susan Marie (Stevenson) Ashe. Bill worked for Canada Post retiring from the Post Office in 1987 after 39 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Blessed Mother Teresa Parish (formerly St. Stephen’s Parish) for over 50 years; serving the Parish Community in several capacities. Bill was an avid hockey player and fly fisherman in his early years. Prior to his illness Bill was very active and especially enjoyed his daily walks throughout the City of Halifax. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Regina Ashe (Mantin); his 5 children – Susan Pierce (Ottawa); Stephen (Claudette Bourgeois), Miramichi; Elaine O’Neill (John O’Neill), Ottawa, Paul (Gayle) Ashe, Edwardsville, and Maureen Ashe (Tony Crossman), Vancouver and his 11 grandchildren whom he loved very much – Stephen Pierce (Toronto), Lauren Pierce (Ottawa), Karen Ashe and Kelly Ashe (Halifax), William O’Neill and Patrick O’Neill (Ottawa), Paula Ashe (Niagara Falls), Meaghan and Kyle Ashe, Edwardsville, Alexandra Crossman and Sarah Crossman (Adelaide, Australia); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers Daniel and Edward. Bill is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Thursday May 17th at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, May 18th at Blessed Mother Teresa Parish, 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax; Father Gerald David officiating.
