Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Margaret Kearns. Bill is survived by his sisters Joan (Roy Kelly) and Geraldine; his son Patrick William (Ally Wade), and daughters Allison (Andrew Murphy), Emily (Sean Curley), and Anna (Anthony Abato); as well as grandchildren Mitchell, Clare, Elliot, and Emilia, and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from SMU with a BEd in 1967, he was a teacher and guidance counselor with the Halifax School Board for 30 years. His years of dedication to his students extended to coaching intramural basketball and volleyball, and he remained friends with many former students.
He enjoyed reading and could be often seen parked in his car, making notes in a book, with his Tim’s coffee in hand. He was known to love sports, particularly hockey, and was a Leafs’ fan to the end.
A memorial service for Bill will be held on Friday, April 29th at 2pm, with a reception to follow, at Cruikshank’s Funeral home, 2666 Windsor Street, in Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Halifax Public Libraries.
