Betty Jean Niedfeldt

Betty Niedfeldt, age 99, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away in the early morning hours of August 22, 2026. Born in August 1926 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Betty fondly remembered walking past Niagara Falls each day on her way to school. At age 10, her family moved to Niagara Falls, New York, where she attended high school.

Betty graduated from New York State College for Teachers at Buffalo and began a career in education. She taught in West Seneca, New York, and Madison, Wisconsin, before eventually settling in Hamilton, where she served as a substitute teacher for Hamilton City Schools and also worked as a Head Start teacher.

While living in Madison, Betty met her husband, Roderick Niedfeldt. They were married September 12, 1955, in Niagara Falls, New York. In 1970, while both were still teaching, Betty and Roderick began purchasing, renovating, and renting homes. Their interest in real estate eventually became a full-time business, with Betty handling many of the day-to-day responsibilities. She remained actively involved in the business for 38 years.

Music was an important part of Betty’s life from childhood. At just six years old, she would line pencils along a window sill and pretend they were piano keys. The highlight of her life was at 11 years old when her parents surprised her at Christmas with a large grand piano. She later became an accomplished pianist and also enjoyed singing, including performing with the Madison Civic Choir. Betty was a camp counselor, played the bugle, enjoyed folk dancing and later taught folk dancing and performed on TV in the 1950s. She also loved classical music, camping, walking, and eagerly awaiting the next snowstorm or thunderstorm.

Faith and family remained important throughout Betty’s long life. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing music and ministering for several local senior living facilities. In her later years, she especially enjoyed spending time with her children and eagerly awaited their daily phone calls. Betty will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Sue (John), Kathy (Seishi), Nancy (Rodney), and son, John; grandchildren, Michael (Becca), Christopher (Kendra), Alex (Marquita), Evan and Eric; and great-grandchildren, Felix and Corrin. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roderick; her parents, Oliva and George; and her brother, George.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Road, Hamilton, Ohio, with the funeral service beginning at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
