Dottie passed away at the age of 92 on February 10, 2016 at her home in Hamilton, Ohio. She was born in Florence, Alabama on August 7, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Willie Keenum. After graduating from Larimore Business College, she was employed in the bookkeeping department at the Tennessee Valley Authority for eight years. She was also a junior hostess for the USO during World War II. In September of 1949, she went dancing at "Lou-Ann's", a famous club in Dallas, Texas. There she met George Mehas of Hamilton, who was a member of the Johnny Long Band. A year and a half later, they were married in New Orleans on January 27, 1951. They returned to George's hometown of Hamilton where they raised their family and continued the family business, Mehas Music. She was an exceptional mom and a loving friend to so many. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to their very special friends that helped care for Dottie in her final years - Mary Goodpaster, Clelia Deleon, and Shannon Bush. Dottie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Luanne (David) Lamar of Houston, TX; Jim (Elena) Mehas of Hamilton; and Georgie Mehas of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Shannon (Hector) Moyano of Chicago, IL; Shayne (Shawnte) Lamar of Houston; Kyle (Macy) Lamar of Houston; Courtney Lamar of Scottsdale, AZ; and Elena Mehas of New York, NY; five great-grandchildren, Dominic and Anabelle Moyano, and Bentley, MacKenzie and Maverick Lamar. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, George Mehas; her son, Peter Kyle Mehas; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keenum and eight siblings Nell Johnstone Leonard, Ruth Anderson, Charles Keenum, Mary Morrison, Marcile Barksdale, Raymond Keenum and infant sister and brother, Lelia and Willard. Dottie spent many years as a volunteer at Ft. Hamilton Hospital. She spent most of her adult life volunteering for the Butler County Developmental Disabilities organization, doing anything and everything she could to make life happier for all the clients. Her precious son Georgie has benefitted from many of the programs. The thing nearest and dearest to Dottie was her association with Liberty Center Advocates - their purpose, to sponsor dances and events to make life more meaningful for the kids.
