It was a privilege to learn from Professor Marinich. 

His passion for not only accounting, but for his students shone through in his lectures. I remember taking his accounting class because it was a mandatory course, but growing a true appreciation for the subject because of his enthusiasm. He made lectures interesting and his jokes made us laugh during stressful exam weeks.  His kindness really helped me during my years at Miami. 

I am deeply saddened by this news. Professor Marinich will be missed greatly.

I took an accounting class lead by Dr. Marinich in 2022. He had a unique ability to make a vary large class feel small and I really appreciated that. I remember him by his great enthusiasm, outward kindness, and relatability.

He will be missed by all who had the chance to meet him. I'm sorry for your loss.

Eric…you were my brother from another mother. We spent many hours together, dancing to amazing music.  I’m so thankful we met. You were a bright spot in my life and you were like a brother to me. You were the first one to pluck my eyebrows! lol! You encouraged me to express myself freely. I got to visit you when you were living in nyc, that was a fun experience! Eric, I hope you see this message in spirit. This pic was taken 20 years ago! Can you believe it? We had so much fun together. You were my work husband, took me to fancy lunches + oh, crazy parties too. I'll never forget the night I blacked out after Boy Bar + Mezzanine, lol. I love you. I'm so glad I got to see you when you came to DC almost 10 years ago. Even though we haven't see each other in ages, I hope you know I think fondly of you always - and that I hope you're resting well + having fun flying around + dancing somewhere beyond this world, a good place. I took Eric Marinich's accounting class last semester and I cannot remember a class where I did not smile. He brought so much joy and energy every day. He never failed to find a way to make accounting interesting and keep me on the edge of my seat. I truly looked forward to being in his class and seeing him around the school. He inspired everyone including myself to find joy in everything that we do. He was an amazing teacher and  an even better role model.

Rest in peace, dear Eric. I have fond memories of all of our years on swim team together, and then finding you again in college. Sending so much love to Franny and your mom - this is unimaginably heartbreaking.

Eric was my neighborhood walking buddy. We shared our love of dog's and a few tears over our lost boys. He was such a kind soul and so supportive. I've missed him and Bella since I moved in August. I'll always cherish our talks and walks. Thinking of all of you and holding you close to my heart.

Professor Marinich was one of my favorite professors throughout my college career. He made me enjoy accounting (something I thought I'd never say), was an excellent teacher, and supported all of his students—both academically and personally. I have stayed in touch with him as an alum, and he has continued to be supportive, even connecting me with some of his students seeking internships. His kindness and sincerity have greatly impacted me, and I'm sure many others as well.

The most genuine, caring and empathetic professor I had a chance to study under at Miami University. He made his priority to make students feel comfortable, and his class was always something I looked forward to. The Miami University community will never be the same.

One of the best professors at Miami. He was my accounting professor during COVID and was still able to make an impact at a time that we lost so much personal connections. He is a huge reason that I majored in accounting and passed my CPAs. Sending love and prayers. He will be missed dearly.

Eric was the reason I took the MAcc program. While I was in Accounting 333, a decided accounting major but unsure what my end goal at Farmer would be to achieve the needed 150 hrs to sit for the CPA (double major, minor in something outside the business school, etc.), he must have sensed I wasn’t sure what to do. As I turned in my final for the course, he asked if I had a minute to chat and he recommended I look into the MAcc program at Miami. That was just the right amount of guidance I needed then while unsure of how to proceed. I will always cherish his charisma and energy. His attitude toward everything was very positive but also realistic. He chose to see the good in people and I will miss him dearly. Thanks for everything Eric. Being a graduate assistant for you was an honor.

I transferred to Miami when I was a sophomore and got into the Farmer School of Business my junior year. Dr. Marinich's class was one of the first classes I took in Farmer. As I acclimated to being at a new school in general, I also had to acclimate myself to being in Farmer and switching majors. The whole process was scary at times but I'll never forget my first interaction with Dr. Marinich. As I introduced myself, I mentioned to him that my previous school was Georgetown University in D.C. As soon as I said "Georgetown", Dr. Marinich immediately told me a story of how he flew in special cupcakes for his dogs from the famous Georgetown Cupcakes dessert shop. Him telling me that story and then genuinely wanting to get to know me not only as a student but as a person as well allowed me to feel more comfortable in my new environment. It was the faculty members like him that helped make Miami feel like home to me and helped shaped my interest into accounting as a career. Thank you again Dr. Marinich and rest in peace.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Marinich's passing.  I thoroughly enjoyed taking his class as a sophomore, and have vivid memories of his sense of humor and creativity in teaching difficult content. 

His dedication to students, the department of accountancy, the university, and the profession as a whole was beyond admirable. Dr. Marinich was a true fixture of the Farmer School, and will certainly be missed.  My condolences to his family.

Right before you started at FSB (August 2013). I was so happy that we were at the same school. It was your birthday.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have had Dr. Marinich as a professor. He was so encouraging, positive, and made learning fun. I will never forget his patience and kindness during the many office hours visits I had. He was always willing to spend time to make sure his students felt confident and comfortable. I had the privilege of having Dr. Marinich as my professor in one of my very first accounting courses at Miami. He quickly became one of my favorite instructors due to his vibrant energy, kindness, and the genuine care he showed for his students' success. It was his class that ultimately inspired me to pursue accounting as my major. I'm a junior now in the masters program for accounting, and I still went to him for help in my more challenging classes because he was such an incredible teacher. I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to have learned from him. He will be missed.

Although I wasn't an accounting major, I still had the privilege of taking one of Professor Marinich's courses a couple of years back. He was always kind, engaging, and was committed to helping his students understand the material. I took his course during one of the most difficult points in my life and will never forget the kindness and understanding he extended to me during that time. My thoughts are with his family and those close to him. His presence at Miami will be deeply missed.

Professor Marinich was truly one of the best professors I had in my early years at Miami. As a student during COVID who took his class remotely, he still managed to create meaningful relationships with his students. Even through recorded lectures, he made me giggle. So saddened to hear about this loss - thoughts and prayers to the family.

It was a privilege to get to know Dr. Marinich. He was so kind, funny, and astute. He always made students feel welcome and comfortable and made accounting as relatable as possible. He could light up a room, always kept it real, and will be truly missed by so many.

I was recently in Dr. Marinich’s accounting class. He was such an amazing professor and always came into the class with a smile and positive attitude. The environment in his class was truly the best and he was one of the best professors I have had at Miami. I truly am so sad to hear about this.

I was in Marinich's class during my spring semester in 2022. I was a marketing major but had to take his class for a credit in the business school. Financial accounting never clicked with me, and I was expecting managerial to be even worse, but Marinich had a special way of teaching it. He was a very kind and attentive professor and I always loved talking to him after class ended. He was one of the best professors I ever had, and my condolences go out to his family and the Miami community.

I will never forget Eric going above and beyond and out of his way to help me through his accounting course he helped made sure I passed it and more importantly made sure I was okay and not stressed out about it he was the teacher and person people should strive to be and one who most will never come close to being.

I had the palate of being in Dr. Marinich’s class this past semester. He was one of the most incredible people I have met in the classroom and always wanted the best for his students. Incredible person who was taken too soon. Rest in Peace

Professor Marinich was one of the most caring professors I have ever had. I am very sad to hear of his passing and hope that he in with us and Bella in spirit.

I recently graduated from Miami University in May 2024, where I had the honor of being in Professor Marinich’s accounting class. I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken to learn of his passing. Dr. Marinich was, without a doubt, the most passionate and caring professor I have ever encountered. Every day that I attended his class was a good day, he never failed to make accounting enjoyable and engaging. 

During my last semester at Miami, I had the privilege of becoming closely acquainted with Dr. Marinich. He was so much more than just a professor; he was a mentor and a source of inspiration. His charismatic personality, wit, kindness, and dedication to his students have left a lasting impact on me, as well as many others. I feel incredibly grateful to have had the chance to learn from him; I will forever remember you, Professor Marinich. My heart goes out to his family at this time.

I recently had Professor Marinich as a teacher and he was one of the nicest professors I have ever had. He truly cared about his students and wanted the absolute best for each and every one of us. I am praying for his family and friends during this time.

I watch this world consume, collect, and destroy beauty. You see flowers cut, butterflies captured, gems cut and locked away all in a vain attempt to possess a piece of something that is out of human reach. I looked at my brother with wonder and awe my entire life. He had more color than a flower, flew with more grace than a butterfly, and shined brighter than any precious stone.  I was so lucky to have his light everyday of my life. He was my big brother, best friend, and super uncle. Our hearts are broken.

Although I only took one class with  Dr. Marinich, his contagious smile and energy was something I always looked forward to in his class. I am deeply saddened by the loss of a professor who cared so much about his students. There a wasn't a class where he didn't make us laugh. He turned honors accounting content into something interesting, relatable, and fun.  I will always remember him telling us to "go get a burger at Skippers" after our midterm before emailing him about our grades which made so many in our class laugh. My heart is with his close family, colleagues, and friends at this time.

I’m a current senior at Miami University and was in Dr. Marinich’s accounting class. I’m deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He made a lasting impact on so many students. His dedication to his students and his passion for accounting will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him during this difficult time.

Eric and I were in the 2013 PhD Cohort of MSU along with Tyler Thomas. Absolutely heart broken to hear the news. He was an amazing academic, professor and friend. Spartan Nation lost and truly amazing soul! Love to all his friends and family. Will always be happy knowing Eric made an impact on so 
 Many people including myself.

Eric was a special person in all possible ways. He and I spent some time together in the Doctoral Program at MSU - he was senior to me. I will always remember his wit, his thoughtfulness, his brilliance and ability to connect at an emotional level with just about anyone. In the year after our paths diverged, I have kept up with his story through social media - his dogs, the time he trained for Disney marathon, his class videos about his students, and his newly found love. I am glad I have those memories, but heartbroken that we will not build more. He leaves an enormous hole in the lives that he has touched. Truly a unique and wonderful person. My heart goes to his family and loved ones.

I was a former student and graduate assistant under Dr. Eric Marinich. Eric was a one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Such a sweet and caring man who would do anything to help someone in need. I smile remembering the memories I share with him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and close friends as this is the loss of a truly special individual. God bless Dr. Eric Marinich, may you rest in peace knowing you brightened the lives of so many people.
