After retirement, she volunteered for Radio Reading Services for the Blind, tutored in the YWCA literacy program, worked as an ESL teacher for a woman from Ghana and another from Iran, and played piano for church services at Tri-County Extended Care for 12 years. Her passion for gardening earned her the name The Plant Lady. She spent the last years of her life tending an acre and a half and making lots of gardening friends. Her favorite memory was of the woman who stopped by one mid-winter to tell Diane that her garden always made her happy.
She was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles William McManis Jr., Mary Lou Manning, and Lois Robbins.
Diane is survived by nephews, Larry Robbins and Michael Manning, and niece, Deborah Waddell.
