September 4, 1934September 12, 2020

September 12, 2020 marked the passing of James W. "Jim" States, 86, a warm, authentic husband, father, PaPaw, brother, and friend. Quick to lend a hand, and skilled at turning a wrench or a phrase, he loved well and was an example of how to live with all your heart to his wife, Dolly States; children, Cheryl, Carla, Jim Jr., and Tim; and numerous grandchildren and extended biological and church family. Special thank you to Hospice of Hamilton (thanks, Nurse Amy). A Graveside Service at Hickory Flat Cemetery will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Hamilton, 1010 Eaton Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. Condolences may be left for the family at

My deepest sympathies to all of Jim's family during this time of loss. I wish I could've been with you, but distance and circumstance didn't allow it. Although this is a time of loss and sadness, it's comforting to think of Lyman, Bob, and Jim reunited and enjoying each others company as they always did...they gave us all so much laughter through the years.

When the States boys were in school my father was transportation inspector for the B&O railroad. Sometimes he would get off the train near Millville Ave. where Uncle Herman and Aunt Ora lived, and visit them. One time he got off the train, and several boys were playing marbles near the tracks, and Dad asked them if they knew the States boys. "Oh yeah, " they said. "They're tough."
