

John Evan “The Beard” Ferguson of Trenton, Ohio died Friday July 4th, 2025. “Johnnie“(as he was affectionately called by his wife and siblings) was born in London, Kentucky to Maggie Helen (Sparks) and Mindell Ferguson on August 25th, 1940. He grew up in downtown Over-the-Rhine Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Central High School (what is now Cincinnati State College). After high school, he opened a radio and television repair shop on Race Street in Cincinnati in 1959 and operated it until 1969 when he, along with his mother and his brother William, opened a family antiques business located on Columbia Parkway on the eastern side of Cincinnati.
In 1977, he began teaching electronics at the Montgomery County Joint Vocational School in Englewood, Ohio. In 1978 he began teaching major appliance repair at Great Oaks spending most of his teaching career between the Diamond Oaks, Live Oaks, and Scarlet Oaks campuses. After 28 years of dedicated service, he retired from teaching in 2005 and ran the Ferguson Antiques store in Price Hill he had opened in 2004 and operated it until 2020 when his failing health forced him to close..
Surviving is his beloved childhood sweetheart and wife of 64 years Charlotte Sue (Smith) Ferguson, his son and daughter-in-law John S. Ferguson and Karen Sue Ferguson (née Keene), his daughter and son-in-law Julie R. Jestice-Blanchard (née Ferguson) and Paul Lewis Blanchard, and seven grandchildren: David Andrew Jestice, John Evan Fountaine Ferguson, Margie Ann Mackenzie Ferguson, Daniel Ian Jestice, Duncan Scott Ferguson, Stewart Marshall Ferguson, and Benjamin Lewis Blanchard.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents Maggie Helen (Sparks) and Mindell Ferguson, his brothers Ernest Dean Ferguson, William Lee Ferguson, Donald Ray Ferguson, and his sister Brenda Sue Ferguson.
Johnnie enjoyed collecting and selling antiques and was very active in his Masonic Lodge. He had a love for animals (especially cats) and cared for many dogs and cats as permanent rescues throughout his lifetime.
A service will take place at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Rd, Hamilton, OH 45011 on Thursday July 10th, 2025, at 10:30 am with a visitation starting at 10:00 am.
