Judy Buckenmyer, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born in Adrian, MI to her parents Herbert and Virginia (Wonder) Rink. Judy completed her Bachelor’s from Siena Heights University and her Masters of Arts & Teaching (MAT)
degree from Miami University in secondary mathematics. Judy began her teaching career at Central
Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, transferred to Swanton High School and ultimately spent
the last 19 years teaching math at Lakota East High School where she was named Teacher of the
Year for the school year 2019-2020. Judy was the heart and soul of Lakota East. She cared deeply
for all of her students and was known for her dedication and passion for teaching. Judy’s passion to teaching reached far beyond the classroom, as she would often be seen cheering on her Thunderhawks at all their sporting events. Judy was involved as a Red Life Advisor and Tennis Coach. She had organized a sock drive for the homeless and an eyeglasses drive for those in need. Judy also baked the best brownies, often as a reward for her students! In most recent months, Judy began organizing weekend breakfast for Cincinnati athletes to ensure they had proper nutrition outside of school hours. Judy’s students will forever be impacted by her gift of teaching and support of community. Judy is a lover of all animals and volunteered as a dog walker for the SPCA. Judy looked for ways to serve her community. She said you don’t have to be part of an organization to do something for your community. She wanted people to know that they had the power to make a difference, and she tried to set the best example she could to spread that message.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Mike; daughter, Lea; son, Brad. Sisters, Barbara (Mike) Mohler, Mary Ann (Terry) Fitzgerald, Susan Arbaugh, and Laura Rink.
