Lela Irene Mays

Mays, Lela Irene, age 86, of Liberty Township, OH., passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025. She was born in Beattyville, KY., on July 31, 1938, to the union of John David Baker and Georgia Lee Abshear. She moved to Hamilton and graduated from Harding High School. Lela was employed at AVON in Springdale, Ohio, for 18 years. Lela loved her family and her “church family”. She met and married the love of her life, Elijah Ray Mays, and together, they loved The Lord for 55 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cathy Spradling; sister, Florene Crisp; brothers, Bobby, Bill, and Tommy Baker; nephew, Michael Ballinger; niece, Yvonne Irene Baker.

Lela is survived by her husband, Elijah; sister, Linda Ballinger (Glenn); sons, Chet Mays (Jane) and Tony Mays (Tina), and Jeff Spradling; daughter, Sherry Mays; sister, Linda Ballinger (Glenn). Lela also had grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held at God’s Temple Christian Church, 3600 Millikin Rd., Hamilton, OH., 45011 on Monday, June 30, 2025, beginning at 5:00pm until time of services, beginning at 7:00pm. A committal service will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park, 2421 Princeton Rd., Hamilton, OH., 45011 on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, beginning at 11:00am. Pastor Valerie McCann, officiating.
