Mother, I thought the days might get a little easier as time passed but that is so not true. I miss you so much.I want you back with us we need you.There is not a day goes by that I don't want to call you. I just need to hear your voice again. I love you and miss you.

Dear Grandma,

Where do I begin? How can I possibly tell you how much I love you and how much you mean to me when you are so far away? I will begin here. I loved you from the moment I met you and I couldn't go back and imagine my life any differently. You made my summers away from California so enjoyable and memorable. I remember us cooking together in the kitchen when I was a young girl, and I used to tell all my friends how one day I wanted to be as good of a cook as you. Unfortunately, I am now almost 26 years old and you still hold the title to the best cook in the family : ) I remember you insisting on Uncle Gregg & Uncle Timmy go and get me a swing set every spring before I would come home so I would have something to keep my friends and i occupied. I will also never forget that every year when you found out my mom & I were coming to visit you, you made sure that there was a huge jar of pickles sitting in the fridge waiting for me. This tradition lasted all the way until 09/2011, when I came to visit you for 9 days and within 4 days the jar was gone. We just seemed to have a bond that couldn't be broken. I know you are at peace and I know in my heart you are with Grandpa and my Grandma Juanita that I never had the opportunity to meet. You filled the spot of "grandma & grandpa" on both my mom's side and my dad's side, and for that I will be forever grateful. I couldn't have asked for a more loving and caring grandparent. Most of my friends were jealous that they didn't have as sweet and cute of a grandma like I did : ) I am getting married in 10 weeks and although I can't have you there physically, i know you'll be smiling down on me and making sure that my day is as special as you think I am. I hope when I become a mother myself that I will be half the woman you once were. You have set a high bar, one that I hope I can live up to. Thank you for setting such a wonderful example for the women in this family. We had such a remarkable woman to call anytime we needed anything. I love you more than anything, so I will see you later Grandma! I will take care of my mom and make sure that she is okay, no matter what! I promise you! XOXOXO

The first time that Robert and I met, he tried to talk me into going to Ohio to stay with his Grandma Lucy until he could finish his navy enlistment. I saw the love he had for his Granny from the very beginning. Once we did arrive in Hamilton being newly married,I saw for myself the close bond that she held for him as well. Robert was one of her sons, as well as her grandson. 
She was a bit intimidating to this scardy girl from California, but I wanted to be close to her and learn from her. She refused to write down any of her recipes for me, so I stood over her while she cooked and wrote down everything she did. I can make Soup Beans and Cocoa and Bisquits that she would be proud of. 
She always called me "Robert's Shirril", since I have the same first and middle name as someone very special to her. 
I admire her and I loved her very much, she was a wonderful woman.

Mother, You know that I love you and miss you so much. I can only get thru this knowing that you finally get to be with Daddy & Juanita, tell them I said hi & I love them and miss them both very much. I love you mother.

I also have fond memories of Aunt Lucy.  She always could make you laugh even when you where at your lowest. If you ever wanted to know how someone in the famiily was doing, all you had to do is ask Aunt Lucy! I'm sure there is a huge celebration in heaven right now. Our family was truly blessed to have such a wonderful person in our lives.  My heart goes out to all. God bless each and every one of you!

Aunt Lucy was an amazing woman....She grew up strong, she grew up proud, she loved her FAMILY more than anyone...but that is the thing with the Gabbard women they taught us so much about loving our families and the Lord. I will miss you Aunt Lucy and I will miss seeing your lil face..and hearing those funny stories... LOVE YOU and prayers to your family ... Penny Mae Mullins Kellum

I have so many fond memories of Aunt Lucy. She was always quick to crack a joke and loved her family with all her heart and soul. She will be missed but never forgotten. My heart goes out to our family and I want you all to know that you are loved. God bless you all.
