Maxine Barger

Maxine (Campbell) Barger, 89, of Fairfield Township, Ohio passed away peacefully at home with her children on Tuesday, September 2, 2026. Her body was failing but we know that her soul is rejoicing in Heaven forever more. Born in Manchester, Kentucky on March 7, 1937, to James & Lucy (Hudson) Campbell, Maxine was the youngest child of 14 brothers & sisters.

Maxine married Hoover Barger March 25, 1958, in Manchester, Ky, then moved to Hamilton, Ohio when Hoover began working at the Fisher Body Plant in Fairfield, where he worked until retirement. Maxine worked a short time at Mercy Hospital until she became a full- time mom & homemaker.

Maxine & Hoover were married 63 years before his passing 9/26/2021.

Their children, Cindy (Donald) Schmidt, Sandi Kay Brashear, Keith Douglas Barger, & Elijah Tyler Barger, were their pride & joy. Maxine lost two babies at birth, Joann & Joel - both loved & never forgotten. She leaves behind her last surviving sister, Joyce Morgan of Elyria, OH - they talked on the phone every.single.day. of their lives until 9/2/26.

Maxine filled her days with being a great wife & mom, cooking Kentucky favorites, helping at the kids’ schools, visiting the elderly, baking cakes & arranging flowers, & helping at church functions. She kept her full Kentucky accent her entire life & enjoyed all the comments she got from Ohio folks! The family camped & boated, took Spring Break trips to Florida each year, & enjoyed Gatlinburg, the Smoky Mountains, Maggie Valley,NC & Myrtle Beach.

Maxine was greatly impacted by Kentucky Mountain Missionaries as a child & attended Youth Haven Bible Camp. She was named an Honor Camper at camp & at least 3 generations of Barger kids attended camp in the hills of Beattyville, Ky. One true JOY in her life came from her grandchildren Jacob (Susie) Brashear, Aaron (Lauren) Schmidt, Adam Schmidt & Megan Maynard, Angela (David) Jimenez, great-grandchildren Blake Brashear, Elizabeth Wasiloski, Brooklyn Brashear, Lucas and Noah Jimenez, Elliot "MJ" Schmidt, Rosalyn Schmidt, and great-great grandson Brady Brashear. Cards, pictures, calls, videos, & visits from these kids filled her heart to overflowing.

Heartfelt thanks to Maxine’s sons, Eli & Keith, for being her devoted & selfless caregivers for the past 10+ years.

Funeral services for Maxine - or Granny Max, Magazine, Aunt Maxie, Granny, Mommy, Ms.Barger - will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Rd, Hamilton 45011 on Tuesday September 8, 2026 with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation at 11am, Funeral Service with Pastor Valerie McCann & graveside service at noon. A luncheon to celebrate Maxine’s life will follow
