Maynard H. Bates age 80 of Fairfield passed away Saturday June 6, 2015 in his home. He was born May 9, 1935 in Whitesburg, Kentucky the son of the late Hillard and Carrie (Caudill) Bates. On March 8, 1965 he married Betty Lovins. Mr. Bates was a beloved husband, father, and grandpa who loved to fish and be with his grandbabies. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Bates; one son Maynard (Maggie) Bates, Jr.; three daughters Deborah (Tim) Harlen, Deborah Barnett, and Donna Hamburger; eleven grandchildren Timorah, Beki, Joe, David, Shawn, Krystal, Joshua, Devin, Corey, Shelby, and Ian; nine great grandchildren Andrew, Abigail, Alana, Carrisa, Cassidy, Sierra, Owen, Kristen, and Charlie; two brothers James (Gladys) Bates and Richard (Betty) Mitchum; two sisters Yvonne Barber and Evelyn Gooch; several nieces and nephews; special nephew Buddy (Lisa) Bates; brother in law Shady (Nevada) Lovins, and sister in law Sally (Jim) Withrow. Mr. Bates was also preceded in death by his daughter Dolores A. Bates, siblings Gloria Dean Wilburn, Jerry Mitchum, Wilmer Mitchum, Merle Bates, and Gardenia Downs, mother in law Maggie Withrow and father in law Robert Lovins.
